Hotter shoes

We officially have summer weather, and with warmer days comes the need of a new pair of shoes.

I have very complicated feet; they’re bony, long, and with a nice steep arc, which allows me to walk and run at great speeds. With skinny feet and an amazing arc comes complications, such as shoes that doesn’t adapt or support my arc, leading to long days of feet pain.

To ease my pain, I always seek comfort shoes. I have had better luck with some more than others, but I come across some complications once in a while; not only complications in comfort, but also complication in style. If you buy comfort shoes like myself, you probably find yourself hours after hours wondering what to do, as the styles can be more reminiscent of grandma, than yourself.

During my mini pain search, I had the opportunity to try U.K. brand Hotter Comfort Shoes, and I’m definitely hooked!

Where do I start!!!?

These shoes actually look very pretty and they have a variety of very chic styles to choose from.

As you may imagine, these shoes don’t only provide amazing arc support, but I also don’t end up with blisters at the end of the day. Believe it or not, I have tried many comfort shoes that didn’t only not provide enough arc support, but also got me a bunch of blister within only a few hours of wearing them. Hotter shoes are also very flexible (I was able to bend them a little); don’t get me wrong, these are very sturdy and well made! But the bend-ability provides the right support to adapt to my walking patterns.

Overall I think that these are amazing and worth for you to check them out!

Food for dad

Father’s Day is finally tomorrow, and apart from getting little presents here and there, I wanted to do something special.

See, I like food, and I have a mini obsession with buying kitchen tools that I’ll never use;  however, as contradicting it may sound: I don’t like cooking.

I avoid the kitchen at all costs, so people have bypassed me as a cooking potential in my household. Due to my disappearance from the kitchen, I want to impress everyone (especially dad) and cook for the family on this special day.

When trying to impress your family with your “cooking skills” it is also important to to impress them with the overall atmosphere of the occasion. Apart from loads of alcohol, I ventured out and got a hold of YHY Scallop Porcelain Plate Sets.

The first thing I loved about these plates was the affordable price point. I wanted to get cute and elegant plates for the occasion, but at the same time, I didn’t want to break my pocket (I got these all under $33 dollars).

I also liked that there is some slight weight to these plates (I didn’t want something too flimsy or too heavy). The scallop design is actually very pretty, and the borders of the plates are very smooth and easy to slide my fingers through (some plates at this price point  tend to have very rough or uneven edges). The overall looks of the plate is great, and there’s no imperfection or random dried paint drops (yep, been there seen that). One last thing that I really liked was how very well packaged these were: these come wrapped in very good quality materials to avoid chipping during the shipping process.

Now, the last thing on my list is figuring out the fine details on my cooking success tomorrow!

Music on the palm of my hand (literally)

Warmer temperatures are finally approaching. As soon as the thermometer reaches a temperature high, one of our favorite things to do as a family is a backyard cookout.

Food isn’t only fun, but it is also a fun boding denominator. When you have a big and energetic family, know for sure that music is part of the ambiance, so we’re always on the hunt for speakers and other instrument that can make our bonding time an unforgettable one!

Usually, we would use big computer speakers, get a cable extension through one of the windows, plug it in the yard, and then plug the speaker. As you may imagine to this point, it was a lot of wiring and a lot of work.

It occurred to me (and I’m sure that to all of you as well) that it is 2017! Therefore, there are certainly more time efficient tactics to enjoy a family music cookout. So in my search, I got a hold of Hiyeed minimalist Wireless speaker.

The speaker is very small (it weights about 170 grams); yet, it ispowerful as the sound quality is great for its size. I like that I can pair it to my iPhone up to 30 feet away (I don’t want to be jailed by the speaker all the time), it has a battery playing life of up to 2.5 hours, and a standby time of close to 20 hours.

One of the most fun characteristics of this speaker is that it has flashing light while the music plays. This makes the ambiance super fun, and makes it suitable for our nighttime cookouts.

I’m very happy with my speaker and I think you should check it out!

My little oasis

img_2271

This world is stressful (I could go on a rant, but I guess it isn’t necessary). There are few things that provoke a sense of conform, relaxation, and safety; including my bed.

For me, my bedroom is like a mini oasis. I can relax, strip myself from all the clothing, makeup, and other social standards; and most importantly: I can finally sleep.

As a result, I’m always try to find multiple things or ways to make my bedroom and my bed super comforting. For example, I love elegant and delicate bed sheets, relaxing scents (nothing too strong, or I can’t sleep), subtle lights at the right corners, heart warming carpets, a pillow with a great support, among other things.

If you have been following my blog, you may recall my constant reference point to my back pain. I was in graduate school up until recently; and in between my blog, my published book, scientific research, statistical analyses, and work, I was easily spending up to +12 hours looking down at a computer. This affected my chronic dry eyes and lead to tremendous back and neck pain, which I have been struggling with for the past couple of months.

Little things like carrying heavy bags, watching T.V, or even finding my comfort spot when going to sleep can be painful. I have also been having difficulty finding a pillow with the right support and balance.

I had tried a few INNX products, including their memory foam bed topper (which was a huge success!) So I went ahead and got a hold of their memory foam pillow.

Super Cute Removable Cover

There are so many things that I love about this pillow, while others that I need to work on.
For example, I’m obsessed with the fact that it has its own removable cover! I’m a clean freak, so it is always important for me to be able to wash my pillow covers. I have always owned “regular” pillows, so I would throw the entire thing in the washer to make it cleaner, which isn’t always great as:

  1. It affects the duration and quality of the pillow.
  2. Eventually, the pillow falls very flat.
  3. Washing machines get affected through time. It wasn’t until I ruined my second washer that I learned that it is not recommended to wash pillows, heavy blankets, and other similar items.

Apart from the point stated above, another aspect that I like about this pillow is its comfort level. The foam actually feels pretty nice. I can be very complicated, so a pillow that is too soft or too sturdy can always be an issue. I like that this pillow is certainly sturdy, so it provides the neck and back support that I need. At the same time, the foam is super smooth, so it provides great comfort. Most foam pillows seem to go one way or the other, but this particular pillow was the exception.

The only “down side” to my pillow experience is that it hasn’t yet adapted to the shape of my neck. This is not necessarily something negative, as you want a pillow that provides support, instead of sinking in with your body. In my particular case, I’m aiming for the pillow to adapt to the shape of my neck as it will help provide that little extra boost of support to my particular neck condition. Again, this isn’t negative; if you have a healthy neck posture, you should be fine.

I overall think that INNX is a great brand, and the quality of the items I tried lived up to their promises. Did I mention that they have a lifetime warranty??

That spells FRIZZ. We all have our hair issues. Mine is dryness and frizz. I have tried a multitude of products, treatments, and approaches; and if you struggle with frizz and dryness like myself, you KNOW that at least 80% of these products don’t work as they promise.

There is one product that is at the top of my 5 favorite products for frizz control. But unfortunately, the brand sells 3 oz of product for $20 dollars, which isn’t budget friendly.

In my attempt to save money, I also tried a bunch of oil treatments at home, but:

  1. It makes my hair oily (not hydrated); therefore, I still experience frizz and some occasional breakage.
  2. Oils wash out hair dye, which is counterproductive and even more expensive.
  3. Oils residue can burn hair, especially when using heating tools.

I continued on my search for an effective and budget friendly product, and finally found It’s a 10 Miracle Defrizzing Gel.

Processed with MOLDIV

I’m pretty aware of the brand, and tried a few of their products here and there (nothing major). However, I’m beyond amazed with how well this defrizzing gel works!

First of all, a little goes a long way (which is always important, considering that I’m always trying my best to save money and make my hair products last longer). The gel also feels amazing when applied to my hair (it feels thicker and smooth) and it actually smells amazing (the scent is strong, but not overwhelming). I like that I can use my defrizzing gel both for dry and wet styles, meaning that it doesn’t burn my hair when I use heat. However, I always prefer dry styles over wet styles (my hair is uncontrollable when wet).

The product also claims to do the following on the hair:

  • It is an oil gel-like formula that hydrates the hair without being oily.
  • It is lightweight.
  • Controls frizz and flyaways.
  • Define curls.
  • Improves hair texture.
  • Improves manageability.

As diverse as we are, so is our hair. There are a multitude of factors that can affect the way our hair reacts to products: weather, condition, hair’s health level/condition, chemical processes, hair length, hair ethnic texture, dryness, nutrition, etc.

So from my personal experience with the product, I can attest that the gel like formula is definitely hydrating without being oily. I also noticed that it does an amazing job at controlling frizz; therefore, my hair is more manageable.

I believe it is certainly worth a shot. Don’t forget to check it out!

Yoga for my feet

img_2240I’m very picky when it comes to my fitness and my workouts. No everything is fulfilling, and activities such as dancing make me feel like an octopus shaking its limps.

One of the activities that I have found much passion doing is hot yoga. For the ones that don’t know, hot yoga is pretty much doing yoga at a room temperature between 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit. The body effort and the hot temperatures make the workout feel pretty much like a cardio. Apart from it, due to its obvious yoga properties, it is an amazing relaxant, meaning that I get cardio and relaxation all in one.

The workout is effective in so many ways, but due to its intensity, I find myself sweating like crazy, meaning that many times my I end up stepping on my sweat, making my workout a slipping mess. In addition, some yoga positions put pressure on my soles (I have a very steep arc), so I definitely decided that I needed a solution.

The greatest solution I have come across is Aulexy yoga and Pilates grip socks. Not only did these save my life, but there are so many things I love about these pair of socks.

Processed with MOLDIV

For example, I like how multi-functional these are; not only are these great for yoga and Pilates, but also for dancing, Barre, bikram, and any other activities where your soles are exposed to constant pressure. I must confess that I also use these to walk around the house (on cold days) and they feel super comfortable.

During my yoga class, I liked that it provided an amazing grip. Not only was it great to prevent slipping, but the grip provided amazing support for my soles, allowing a more perfect movement and greater balance. The “grip area” of the socks are also very comfortable and doesn’t hurt on my soles (like other grip socks I have tried in the past).

Overall great buy and I’m super happy with it!
